Frenzy's guide to Star Wars Saga Edition (SWSE) Role Playing Game: You are the heroes. SWSE is a role-playing game, a game where you take on the role of a character. It has a set of rules behind it for events (like combat) and statistics (for character development) but beyond that is very "imagination based". The game master (GM) tells a story and you, the characters interact with it and determine how things go. Having statistics to your character shows how much you can influence events. Dice are rolled to inject randomness in events (multiple sides gives you different percentages) such as if you hit in an attack or not. Even if they roll very well, a starting character won't be able to defeat someone the likes of Darth Vader since he doesn't have the skills or equipment to do it. General Star Wars resources (not specific to SWSE) http://www.wookiepedia.org -- Game themes; sessions may be one or a mix of these -- - Exploration: Mix of combat and roleplaying. Explore the unknown regions and make new friends (or enemies) while visiting new places. - Intrigue: Twists, turns, and backstabs galore. Everone has their own agenda. Focus is on roleplaying. - Gathering Allies: Build up an organization, get a base, and gather powerful allies to help. Mix of combat and roleplaying. - Combat: Focus is on the more "tactical" combat turns with Roleplaying minimal. -- Characters -- Class: Your class purely defines some special abilities your character has. It is not the same as a character concept. For instance, if one of you wanted to play a Jedi, you don't have to take the Jedi class to train with a lightsaber and use the force. Taking levels in the jedi class lets you enhance your force abilities however. You can multiclass as much as you want, even taking levels in every available base class. For instance, Luke Skywalker could be portrayed as having levels in scout and jedi. Certain "prestige classes" can only be taken at level 8, and aren't discussed here. Each class has a certain number of starting skills, talents available (you pick one), and weapon proficiencies. Description of each class with examples. - Jedi: (Luke Skywalker, Obi-wan Kenobi) A...Jedi, strong in melee combat and force skills. Skills: 2; Talent Trees: consular, Guardian, Sentinel, Lightsaber Combat; Weapons: Lightsaber, simple - Noble: (Padme Amidala, Jabba the Hutt) A character who leads others, from a religious leader to a crime lord. Many talents that affect other characters. Skills: 6; Talent Trees: Influence, Inspiration, Leadership, Lineage; Weapons: pistols, simple - Scoundrel: (Han Solo, Lando Calrissian) A rogue who lives by trickery for good or evil. Skills: 4; Talent Trees: Fortune, Misfortune, Slicer (hacking), Spacer; Weapons: pistols, simple - Scout: (Chewbacca, Boba Fett) Skills: Someone who is good at finding things, surviving on their own, or being stealthy. 5; Talent Trees: Awareness, Camouflage, Fringer, Survivor; Weapons: pistols, rifles, simple - Soldier: (Clone Troopers, Rebellion fighter pilots) A fighter, from a brawler to a ranged marksman. Skills: 3; Talent Trees: Armor Specialist, Brawler, Commando, Weapon Specialist; Weapons: pistols, rifles, simple (also trained in armor) Skills: These are the basic . You are either trained or not trained, SWSE does not use "points" as in some other games. You can also get a bonus by being focused in a skill. Being trained means you have an above the norm amount of proficiency in the skill. Talents: These are special abilities directly tied to your class. For instance, Jedis could choose a talent to block blaster bolts with a lightsaber, a noble could choose one that offered morale bonuses to attack for the whole party of characters, or the scoudrel could choose one that makes him do extra damage when he catches enemies off guard. Feats: Special abilities that can be chosen by any character who meets the prerequisites. For instance, a Nobel could pick up proficiency with heavy weapons (missile launchers, etc.) as easily as a soldier. Attributes: The core "characteristics" of your character's body and mind. Each skill has a corresponding attribute, such as intelligence paired with Use Computer. - Strength: How strong you are. Affects melee combat. - Dexterity: How good your reflexes, and fine motor skills are. Affects ranged combat. - Constitution: How tough you are. Also adds to your hit points (sort of like health). - Intelligence: How smart you are. Affects the number of additional skills you get beyond the basic class set. - Wisdom: How wise you are. It affects how perceptive you are and your strength of mind among other things. - Charisma: How strong your personality is. Can mean you are physically attractive, but a scarred leader who has a strong following would also likely have high charisma. Species: You can choose a species as human or alien as you want. Each species generally have attribute modifiers Here are the "core" species. I suggest sticking to these for your first character.
